Paracelsus Medical University awards 667,000 euros in scholarships

Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) has provided 667,000 euros in scholarships to 125 students for the 2025/2026 academic year. The funding specifically supports students in human medicine and pharmacy at the university's Salzburg location.

Approximately one in five PMU students qualified for financial aid based on social criteria. Of the 600 total students in these programs, 72 human medicine students received 418,700 euros, while 53 pharmacy students received 218,900 euros. Depending on their financial situation, the scholarships covered up to 70 percent of tuition costs.

As a private university, PMU does not receive federal funding for teaching and study support. The scholarship program is funded through university resources derived from tuition fees, as well as contributions from various companies and private donors. PMU Rector Annemarie Weißenbacher noted that while admission is based on merit and competitive selection, the scholarships aim to ensure that financial circumstances do not prevent qualified students from studying.
