Paraglider dies in accident in Castellfollit del Boix, Spain

A 35-year-old paraglider, identified as Luciano Bellabarba, died following an accident in the forested area of the Serra de Rubió Wind Farm in Castellfollit del Boix, Catalonia. The incident occurred around 7:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23.

Emergency services, including the Bombers de la Generalitat, the Grup d’Actuacions Especials (GRAE), and the Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), launched a complex rescue operation. Due to the victim's location halfway up a mountain slope and the approaching darkness, rescuers utilized a helicopter to transport a doctor and a rescuer to the site. Despite medical assistance and the installation of support ropes for evacuation, the man succumbed to his severe injuries at the scene.

The Mossos d’Esquadra have deployed patrols to the area and have opened a judicial investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
