Paraglider rescued from California cliff by helicopter

A paraglider was rescued by helicopter after crashing onto a cliff near Mussel Rock in Daly City, California, on Wednesday afternoon. The solo pilot became stranded approximately 500 feet below the cliff top on extremely rough terrain.

The rescue operation involved the California Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate Division air operations, Daly City firefighters, and American Medical Response. A rescue technician was lowered from a CHP helicopter down the sheer cliff face to reach the pilot. Both the technician and the injured man were then hauled back up to the aircraft.

The paraglider was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center with moderate injuries. The entire emergency response, from the initial call to hospital transport, lasted approximately 90 minutes.
