Paraguay advances aerospace and agricultural technology
Paraguay is advancing its technological capabilities in the aerospace and agricultural sectors through two major initiatives.
Agro IA, in collaboration with the Universidad Nacional de Asunción, is developing South America’s first large-scale Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) designed specifically for autonomous crop spraying. The project, which involves students from the university's Polytechnic Faculty, aims for a 2027 debut. The aircraft is designed to operate using artificial intelligence and computer control, with a capacity to cover up to 1,000 hectares per day, significantly reducing operational costs for agricultural producers.
In the aerospace sector, the Paraguayan Space Agency is preparing for the launch of GuaraniSat-2, a nanosatellite scheduled for October 2026. Unlike its predecessor, which received support from Japan, GuaraniSat-2 was designed, integrated, and built entirely by Paraguayan professionals. Operating at an altitude of approximately 500 kilometers, the satellite will monitor crops to assist the agricultural sector and collect scientific data regarding the South Atlantic Anomaly.
