Paraguay advances Bioceánico pipeline and high‑tech bridge projects

The Paraguayan government presented the Bioceánico gas pipeline project, a roughly 1,000‑km conduit across the Chaco that will link Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo industrial regions with the Vaca Muerta gas field in Argentina. The plan is promoted as a strategic infrastructure to integrate the regional energy market, attract investment, and spur new industrial poles, including a thermal power plant in Mariscal Estigarribia and an industrial complex in Carmelo Peralta, while new hydrocarbon legislation is being prepared to regulate gas transport.

In parallel, the Prointec consortium unveiled a digital real‑time monitoring system for the proposed Bioceánica bridge. The system uses distributed sensors—accelerometers, tilt meters, strain gauges and weather stations—to continuously diagnose structural health, send data online to remote engineers, and issue early warnings for preventive maintenance. This technology aims to reduce on‑site inspections, lower operating costs and extend the bridge’s lifespan, with plans to equip other Paraguayan bridges with similar equipment.
