Paraguay and Bolivia advance circular economy and waste-to-resource initiatives

Paraguay and Bolivia are advancing circular economy initiatives to enhance industrial competitiveness and sustainability.

In Paraguay, the launch of the Oportunidades Circulares (POC) 2.0 program aims to integrate circularity into industrial strategies. Supported by the European Union and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the program assists companies in transforming waste into new inputs and products. The Ministry of Industry and Commerce is working with the private sector and academia to improve financing, innovation, and national capacity.

In Bolivia, the government and Soboce have launched a coprocessing project in Viacha. This initiative uses non-recyclable waste as alternative fuel in cement production to replace conventional fuels. Managed by the Ministry of Sustainable Production, Environment and Water in collaboration with German Cooperation (GIZ), the project seeks to reduce landfill impact, attract investment, and create employment through sustainable industrialization.
