Paraguay and Uruguay pursue regional logistics and sustainable mobility initiatives

Paraguay and Uruguay are advancing strategic efforts to modernize transportation and strengthen regional logistics. In Paraguay, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is collaborating with the Paraguayan-German Chamber to explore sustainable mobility projects. Discussions focused on technical and financial cooperation through mechanisms such as the European Union’s Global Gateway and the German Development Bank (KfW). Key areas of interest include electric trains, cable transport, smart mobility solutions, and infrastructure feasibility studies aimed at leveraging Paraguay’s energy potential to reduce dependence on imported fuels.

In Uruguay, the Ministry of Transport and Public Works is working to position the country as a regional logistics hub. Minister Lucía Etcheverry highlighted strategies to capture regional demand, including deepening the Paraná-Paraguay roadmap and prioritizing Urupabol agreements. The initiative focuses on the Capricorn Bioceanic Corridor and the opportunities presented by the EU-Mercosur agreement. Uruguay currently exports approximately $900 million through logistics services, utilizing its port platforms and air connectivity to support sectors such as the pharmaceutical industry.
