Paraguay begins paving final 52km of Bioceanic Corridor

Paraguay has commenced the paving of the final 52 kilometers of the Bioceanic Corridor (Ruta de la Integración Latinoamericana) leading to the Argentine border at Misión La Paz. The current works are concentrated in Lot 4 of the third section of the corridor, specifically between the localities of Cruce Don Silvio and Pozo Hondo.

The project involves paving 224 kilometers of the PY15 highway between Mariscal Estigarribia and the Argentine border. The road structure is engineered for heavy international freight, utilizing three layers of soil-cement followed by a 7-centimeter asphalt base and a 6-centimeter final wearing course. Technical supervisor Carlos Vaché reported that drainage works are 99% complete and the structural package is advancing.

This corridor is a strategic infrastructure project designed to link Pacific Ocean ports in Chile with Atlantic Ocean ports in Brazil, passing through Paraguay. The first section of the route, from Carmelo Peralta to Loma Plata, is already complete. A bridge in Carmelo Peralta connecting Paraguay to Brazil is expected to be finished by September. The second section, spanning 102 kilometers, involves a USD 200 million investment supported by the Inter-American Development Bank.
