Amazonian entrepreneurs call for national priority status for regional development

Representatives from the private sector, indigenous communities, academia, and civil society have formally requested that the Executive Branch and Congress declare the inclusive and competitive development of the Amazon a national priority. This proposal was part of the ‘Declaration of Ucayali,’ established during the VII Congress of Amazonian Entrepreneurs held in conjunction with ExpoAmazónica Ucayali 2026.

The declaration outlines eleven key points, including the implementation of a National Strategic Amazon Plan with a vision toward 2060 and a significant injection of social investment to reactivate the economy. Specific measures requested include legal stability, the creation of a private fund to finance MSMEs, and the establishment of an autonomous authority to drive multimodal road infrastructure.

Additionally, the group is calling for the Pucallpa-Chancay-Callao trans-Amazonian railway corridor to be declared of national interest. Other priorities include addressing energy and fuel shortages, ensuring territorial security, and restoring regional authority. During the event, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Óscar Reto, noted that development in the region must move beyond mere resource extraction of timber, gold, or oil.
