Paraguay: Colorado Party intensifies 2026 campaign efforts amid internal criticism

In Paraguay, political tensions are rising within the ruling Colorado Party as leaders prepare for the 2026 municipal elections. Raúl Latorrese, President of the Chamber of Deputies, has urged party leaders to intensify grassroots campaigning and maintain direct contact with voters to avoid complacency. Latorrese emphasized the importance of territorial work and cautioned against over-reliance on polls favoring candidate Camilo Pérez.

The officialist government plan includes proposals for municipal administration digitalization, financial reorganization, citizen security, waste collection, and road infrastructure repair.

Simultaneously, Senator Celeste Amarilla has criticized the Colorado Party's internal dynamics, accusing the Honor Colorado faction of operating like a 'militia' under the direct command of leadership. Amarilla argued that lawmakers within the party are following external instructions rather than exercising parliamentary independence, specifically targeting the influence of political leadership over the party's representatives.
