Paraguay economy shows growth as Brazilian investment rises

Paraguay is experiencing significant economic activity, characterized by a 13.9% increase in imports and a 24.7% rise in exports during the first eight months of 2026. This growth has resulted in a trade surplus of approximately USD 716.9 million. The increase in imports is largely driven by the acquisition of capital goods, machinery, and raw materials, signaling heightened industrial and commercial investment.

Parallel to this macroeconomic growth, Paraguay is attracting substantial interest from Brazilian investors, particularly through the Maquila Law regime. This legal framework encourages companies to establish production facilities aimed at export. The Alto Paraná department has become a central hub for this activity, hosting nearly half of the country's 324 registered maquiladoras. Notably, about 90% of business inquiries to the Alto Paraná Governor's Office originate from Brazil.

To capitalize on this momentum, the 17th Expo Paraguay Brasil is scheduled for November 11-13, 2026, in Hernandarias. Organized by the Paraguay-Brazil Chamber of Commerce with support from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the event seeks to channel over USD 600 million in potential investment opportunities, focusing on technology, innovation, and Industry 4.0.
