Paraguay establishes 2026-2027 fishing ban to protect resources

Paraguay’s Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADES) has issued Resolution No. 511, establishing a national fishing ban for the 2026-2027 period. The measure aims to protect fish reproduction and ensure the sustainability of aquatic resources.

Generally, the ban will run from November 2, 2026, to December 21, 2026. In shared waters with Argentina, including border sections of the Paraguay, Paraná, and Pilcomayo rivers, the restriction also ends on December 21. However, in waters shared with Brazil—specifically the Paraguay River section between the Negro and Apa rivers, the Apa River, and the upper Paraná River up to the Yguazú River—the ban will extend until January 31, 2027, in accordance with binational conservation agreements.

The restrictions apply to sport and commercial fishing, the use of fishing gear, and the transport and sale of fishing products.
