Paraguay GDP grows 4% in second quarter

Paraguay's GDP grew by 4% in the second quarter, bringing the cumulative growth for the first half of the year to 5.7%.

On the supply side, growth was primarily driven by services, electricity generation and distribution, agriculture, manufacturing, and construction. The agricultural sector saw an 11.1% year-on-year expansion during the quarter, fueled by increased production of soy, rice, beans, sunflower, and tobacco.

In contrast, the livestock, forestry, fishing, and mining sector experienced a 4.1% year-on-year decline, largely due to a reduction in cattle slaughtering. This contraction was partially offset by higher production in poultry, pork, milk, and eggs.

Other contributing sectors included manufacturing, which grew 1.8% in the second quarter, and construction, which rose 4.2% due to increased private works and demand for national supplies.
