Paraguay hospitals suffer infrastructure damage from severe storms

Severe weather in Paraguay has caused significant infrastructure damage across several key medical facilities. The Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare reported that six major health establishments were affected, including the Instituto de Medicina Tropical (IMT), Incan, and the Materno Infantil of Fernando de la Mora. The IMT suffered the most severe impact, with its pediatric intensive care unit flooding due to roof damage, requiring an immediate evacuation of children. Repairs for the IMT are estimated to cost approximately 274.6 million guaraníes.

At the Hospital de Clínicas, heavy storms caused ceiling collapses and leaks in sensitive areas, including the pediatric intensive care unit, neonatology, and adult emergency departments. These leaks forced the relocation of patients and the temporary suspension of activities in the Mastology operating room.

In Caazapá, the Regional Hospital has successfully restored its pulmonology services following repairs to a consultation room damaged by the same storms. The restoration was achieved through inter-institutional cooperation between the hospital and the Caazapá Departmental Government.
