Paraguay inaugurates women's protection center in Alto Paraná
President Santiago Peña and First Lady Leticia Ocampos officially inaugurated the Integrated Protection and Care Model for Women in Situations of Violence (MAPAI) in Ciudad del Este. The new complex, located on the grounds of the Alto Paraná Governorate, includes a Regional Women's Center and a temporary shelter (Casa de Acogida).
The facility is designed to provide multidisciplinary assistance, including legal, psychological, and social support, as well as secure housing for victims at high risk. During the ceremony, authorities also delivered technical equipment and a new vehicle to enhance territorial intervention and response times across the department's municipalities.
The project was developed through cooperation between the Ministry of Women, the Alto Paraná Governorate, and international partners, including the European Union and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), in coordination with FIIAPP. The initiative addresses a critical need in the region, as Alto Paraná currently ranks second nationally for domestic and family violence reports, with 3,178 complaints recorded in local peace courts between January and September of this year.
