Paraguay industrial sector shows limited Industry 4.0 adoption

A study titled ‘Travesía 4.0’, conducted by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in partnership with the Industrial Union of Paraguay (UIP), examines the current state of digital transformation within Paraguay’s industrial sector.

Based on research from 152 Paraguayan industrial companies conducted in 2023, the findings indicate that the transition to Industry 4.0 is still in its early stages. Approximately 80% of the surveyed companies utilize low-level, first or second-generation technologies, while only 17% have adopted third or fourth-generation technologies associated with advanced automation and data analysis.

The report suggests that for Paraguay, the path to industrial modernization requires more than just purchasing new hardware; it necessitates identifying specific business processes for transformation to ensure technology generates actual value and improves productivity.
