Paraguay launches $286 million bioceanic corridor to connect Brazil and Argentina with Pacific ports

Paraguay's government approved a $286 million bioceanic corridor project financed by Japan's International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Vice‑President Pedro Alliana and Public Works Minister Claudia Centurión presented the plan to the Senate, seeking congressional approval so construction can begin in 2027.

The corridor will comprise more than 170 km of concrete road, extending from Yabebyry in the Misiones Department to Pilar in Ñeembucú. It is designed to link Brazil’s production zones and northern Argentine road networks directly to Pacific Ocean ports, creating a continuous trade route. The project builds on earlier export corridors and aims to position Paraguay as a regional logistics hub for Latin America.

Funding includes $286 million from JICA, with expected benefits for local concrete manufacturers and broader regional commerce through improved heavy‑vehicle transport capacity.
