Paraguay launches second edition of free civil marriage campaign

The Civil Registry of Paraguay has launched the second edition of its national campaign, ‘Paraguay se casa 2026: Unidos por amor y protegidos por la ley’. The initiative aims to facilitate access to free civil marriages and promote the legal formalization of couples across the country by eliminating bureaucratic hurdles and costs.

Maximiliano Ayala, the Director General of the Civil Registry, noted that the campaign seeks to strengthen families and establish marriage as a societal foundation. He emphasized that marriage provides immediate legal rights and obligations, distinguishing it from common-law unions, which may require judicial processes to recognize.

The first edition of the campaign saw approximately 3,500 couples marry, including a mass ceremony in Asunción involving 600 couples. Interested parties can register for the current campaign via WhatsApp.
