Paraguay launches urban planning forum and attracts new private equity investment

The Paraguayan government has launched the ‘Foro ASU 500 años’ to plan the urban transformation of Asunción ahead of the city’s fifth centenary. The forum brings together international representatives, academia, the private sector, and civil society to discuss urban reconversion and heritage preservation. First Lady Leticia Ocampos emphasized that the goal is to revitalize the historic center to make it a lived-in space rather than a museum, while President Santiago Peña noted that urban interventions are intended to drive economic development by attracting new investments, commerce, and jobs.

In separate economic news, the Uruguayan private equity firm IBF Negocios has entered the Paraguayan market. The firm plans to invest between US$ 50 million and US$ 60 million over its first three years, targeting the acquisition of established, profitable companies. IBF Negocios founder Hugo Benedetti stated that the expansion is driven by Paraguay’s macroeconomic stability and growth rates. The firm’s strategy focuses on acquiring functional businesses with consolidated brands, specifically targeting family-owned companies undergoing succession processes.
