Paraguay: Law student killed by ex-partner in Lambaré

Deisy Paola Giménez Segovia, a 22-year-old law student, was fatally shot by her ex-partner, Aldo Alexis Duarte Moreira, in Lambaré, Paraguay. The incident occurred on a Thursday night while Giménez was walking to her job. Duarte reportedly intercepted her in a vehicle and fired three shots at close range.

Giménez had previously reported threats and had obtained a protection order from a Justice Court. However, former Vice Minister of Women, Liliana Zayas, criticized the state's failure to provide effective oversight, noting that protective measures often lack the necessary follow-up to ensure actual safety. Zayas highlighted that women are often at their highest risk immediately after filing a report.

This case marks the twentieth feminicide recorded in the country this year. Statistics from the Prosecutor's Office indicate that the Central Department has the highest number of such incidents, yet it lacks a specialized unit dedicated to violence against women.
