Paraguay police dismantle illegal ‘gota a gota’ lending ring
Paraguayan National Police and prosecutors have dismantled an illegal lending organization, known as ‘gota a gota’, during an operation in Asunción and Luque. Six Colombian nationals were arrested during simultaneous raids.
The operation, named ‘Operación Gota a Gota’, followed a kidnapping report filed in Medellín, Colombia. Authorities rescued a victim and his Paraguayan partner after they were held for approximately 72 hours. The kidnappers reportedly demanded 25 million Colombian pesos (approximately 7,897 USD) for their release.
Investigators believe the victim was an associate of the criminal structure who was kidnapped by his own colleagues, allegedly for misappropriating funds. During the raids, police seized a firearm, ammunition, mobile devices, cash, and a vehicle. Charges of kidnapping and criminal association have been filed.
