Paraguay political leaders address 2028 election prospects
Political figures in Paraguay are addressing the upcoming electoral cycles, distinguishing between the immediate municipal elections and the 2028 general elections.
Opposition leader Prieto claims to have significant support from the Colorado Party electorate for a potential 2028 presidential bid. He argues that local municipal results should not be viewed as a definitive indicator of the 2028 outcome, asserting that voter behavior in local contests differs from presidential races. Prieto noted that while some voters support the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR) for local offices, they may be open to his candidacy in the future.
Meanwhile, Minister of Urbanism, Housing, and Habitat Juan Carlos Baruja stated that discussions regarding the 2028 elections will be deferred until after the municipal elections are concluded. Speaking in Caaguazú alongside Vice President Pedro Alliana, Baruja emphasized that the current government priority remains administrative management and the delivery of social housing rather than political campaigning for future cycles.
