Paraguay President emphasizes market competition to boost economy
During an event hosted by the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), Paraguayan President Santiago Peña emphasized the importance of market competition in protecting household economies. Peña stated that clear rules and equal conditions for businesses stimulate innovation and improve service quality.
A study by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) cited during the session suggests that per capita income in Latin America could increase by 11% if regional markets achieved competition levels similar to advanced economies.
Eduardo Barros, president of the National Competition Commission (CONACOM), reported that the agency is currently analyzing 21 economic concentration operations and investigating key sectors such as retail and the meat market. CONACOM has also been recognized for three consecutive years by the World Bank and the International Competition Network.
