Paraguay President Santiago Peña meets IPS head Isaías Fretes to tackle drug shortages
President Santiago Peña of Paraguay met with Isaías Fretes, the director of the Instituto de Previsión Social (IPS), to discuss the institution’s ongoing challenges. The officials focused on improving the supply of medicines, accelerating medical appointment scheduling, and reorganising internal administrative procedures.
The meeting also came amid criticism of Fretes for not filing criminal complaints related to alleged mismanagement at the IPS. Senators have summoned him to address issues such as drug shortages, alleged corruption and irregular hiring. The government reaffirmed its commitment to enhance service quality for insured citizens.
