Paraguay proposes new regulations for potentially dangerous dogs
A legislative project has been introduced in Paraguay to establish a framework for the responsible ownership of potentially dangerous dogs. Proposed by Deputy Yamil Esgaib, the bill aims to balance animal welfare with the safety of people, property, and other animals.
The initiative follows reports of attacks in areas such as Mariano Roque Alonso, Ciudad del Este, and Luque. Under the proposed law, owners of animals classified as potentially dangerous would be required to obtain an administrative license from their local municipality. Requirements for this license include being of legal age, demonstrating the capacity to provide necessary care, and complying with registration protocols during any transfer of ownership.
The project also calls for the mandatory identification and registration of owners, breeders, importers, and holders to ensure oversight by municipalities and the National Directorate of Defense, Health, and Animal Welfare.
