Paraguay rains boost winter crops while delaying soybean and corn harvest

Recent rains across Paraguay have recharged soil moisture, creating favorable conditions for winter crops such as wheat and for growing crops like chía. Farmers in San Pedro, Caaguazú and Itapúa report strong development of chía and wheat, and an advanced stage of the soybean (zafriña) campaign.

However, the same rainfall has halted harvesting operations for late‑season soybean and corn. Harvest crews in San Pedro and other areas say work is paused due to persistent rain, while some growers have begun whole‑plant ensiling of corn. The grain harvest is now projected for late June to early July. Overall, the precipitation improves soil health and crop prospects but delays the final harvest phase for key grain crops.
