South American agriculture sees record soybean and grain exports
South American agricultural sectors are seeing significant shifts in export volumes and livestock trends. In Paraguay, the soybean complex has generated USD 4.264 billion through September, accounting for 41% of the country's total export foreign exchange. Soybean grain exports reached 7.9 million tons, a substantial increase over the previous year, with projections suggesting a year-end record exceeding 8 million tons.
Paraguayan livestock is also evolving, with the Nelore cattle breed expanding its presence due to its fertility and weight gain characteristics. This growth is particularly notable in the northern Oriental Region. Additionally, USDA projections suggest Paraguay could increase beef exports by 5% in 2027, even as global beef trade is expected to decline slightly.
In Argentina, grain commercialization has reached record levels, with over 105 million tons of soybeans, corn, wheat, sorghum, and sunflower sold as of early October. This volume exceeds the five-year average by 25%. The Bolsa de Comercio de Rosario reports that this high activity is driven by firm pricing and extraordinary production, providing a significant boost to national foreign exchange reserves.
