Paraguay Senate approves National Day of the Evangelical Church

The Paraguayan Senate has approved a bill to establish the last Sunday of October as the ‘National Day of the Evangelical Church of the Republic of Paraguay’. The legislation aims to recognize and promote the historical, cultural, social, educational, humanitarian, and spiritual contributions of evangelical churches to the nation.

Proponents of the bill, including senators Orlando Penner, Lizarella Valiente, Blanca Ovelar, and Gustavo Leite, noted that the evangelical community has been part of Paraguay's development since the early 20th century, contributing to areas such as health, social assistance, and professional training. The initiative follows a request from the Association of Evangelical Churches of Paraguay.

During the session, certain modifications were made to the original proposal. An article that would have required the Ministry of Education and Sciences to include the date in the school calendar was struck out by consensus. The bill will now proceed to the Chamber of Deputies for further consideration.
