Paraguay Senate approves National Day of the Evangelical Church
The Paraguayan Senate has approved a bill establishing the National Day of the Evangelical Church to recognize the role of evangelical communities in the country's history and social development.
Following legislative discussions, the date for the commemoration was changed from the originally proposed October 31 to the last Sunday of October each year. The approved measure does not establish a new national holiday; it is a commemorative date that does not require the suspension of commercial, school, or administrative activities.
Additionally, an amendment was accepted to remove the requirement for the Ministry of Education and Sciences to include the date in the official school calendar. Proponents of the bill, including senators Orlando Penner, Lizarella Valiente, Blanca Ovelar, and Gustavo Leite, noted that the initiative responds to requests from representative organizations such as the Association of Evangelical Churches of Paraguay.
