Paraguay Supreme Court ministers face potential impeachment rumors

Political tensions are rising in Paraguay following reports of a potential impeachment process against members of the Supreme Court of Justice. Supreme Court Minister Víctor Ríos confirmed awareness of a plan within Congress to pursue the removal of high-ranking judicial members. While Ríos stated, “there is no reason whatsoever for our impeachment,” he acknowledged that such a process ultimately depends on the Senate's discretion.

The rumors specifically name ministers Víctor Ríos, Manuel Ramírez Candia, and Gustavo Santander. Senator Mario Varela previously indicated that inquiries were made among deputies regarding the possibility of an impeachment, though no formal process has been initiated.

In response to these developments, Alcides Riveros, president of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), stated that the party will defend judicial independence and institutionalism. Riveros emphasized that the PLRA will not participate in any attempts to seize control of the judiciary through political bargaining, noting that the party will only establish an official position once a formal request is presented.
