Paraguay to host 4th Mercosur Texel Congress

Paraguay will host the 4th Mercosur Texel Congress on October 10, held within the framework of the 9th National Texel Expo. The event will bring together breed experts from across the region and features a ten-person delegation from the United Kingdom.

Ignacio Callizo, Vice President of the Paraguayan Texel Breeders Association, noted that the British delegation's visit is significant because Paraguay has historically imported genetics from the UK. The visitors aim to observe how these genetic lines have evolved and performed under Paraguay's tropical conditions and high temperatures.

The technical agenda includes a presentation on the certified Texel meat project, which provides a price premium for producers. Other scheduled topics include health and scrapie management by Senacsa, the future projections for the Texel breed toward 2030 by the British delegation, and an overview of Estimated Breeding Values (DEPs) provided by Uruguay.
