Paraguayan Chamber Approves Permanent ID Office for Alto Paraguay
The Paraguayan Chamber of Deputies approved a proposal by Deputy José Domingo Adorno to establish a permanent office of the Department of Identifications in the department of Alto Paraguay. The measure aims to give residents of districts such as Bahía Negra, Fuerte Olimpo, Carmelo Peralta and Puerto Casado a local facility for civil identity cards and passports, which they currently must obtain by traveling long distances to other departments or Asunción, often on impassable dirt roads.
The approved declaration emphasizes that access to identity documents is a constitutional right and a gateway to health, education, formal employment and social assistance. While the permanent office is being set up, the resolution also urges the National Police to conduct mobile mass‑cedulation campaigns across the department as an interim solution.
