Paraguayan clergy urge action on migration and urban needs

Religious leaders in Paraguay have issued calls for improved social conditions and better management of migration and urban development. During a mass in Asunción, Cardinal Adalberto Martínez addressed upcoming municipal elections, urging candidates to move beyond empty promises. He emphasized that families require concrete actions, such as access to potable water, housing, and improved infrastructure in social territories. Martínez also highlighted the need for municipalities to expedite land titling processes to ensure families can live with dignity.

In Caacupé, Bishop Pedro Collar Noguera spoke on the necessity of creating domestic opportunities so that migration becomes a free choice rather than a forced necessity due to economic hardship. He noted the social costs of migration, including separated families, and raised concerns regarding the protection of minors. The Bishop specifically called for an end to child labor and exploitation, stating that economic pressure does not justify depriving children of their childhood.
