Paraguayan comedy ‘Timoteo, el loro que se volvió santo’ premieres

The Paraguayan film ‘Timoteo, el loro que se volvió santo’ is set to premiere on Thursday, September 3. Directed by Osvaldo Ortiz Faiman in his directorial debut, the comedy marks a return to the genre for Paraguayan cinema since the 2019 film ‘Orsai’.

The plot follows two neighbors who attempt to hide the accidental death of a parrot caused by a dog. As the secret spreads, local rumors escalate the situation, eventually transforming the deceased bird into a perceived miracle that gains attention as far away as the Vatican. The story unfolds against the backdrop of a dispute over a neighborhood commission presidency.

Director Ortiz Faiman stated that the film aims to reflect Paraguayan reality without apology, noting that ‘Paraguay gives us a reality that surpasses fiction.’ The production features lead performances by Amada Gómez, Olga Vallejos, and Katty Pacuá, focusing on three elderly women as central characters rather than decorative ones.
