Paraguayan Eucalyptus grandis seeks entry into Japanese market
Paraguayan Eucalyptus grandis is undergoing evaluation to enter the Japanese construction market. The process aims to include the species in the list of woods certifiable under the Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS).
Japanese firm Innosho Forestry is leading the interest, conducting technical tests and meeting with Paraguayan authorities and suppliers to study the local forestry sector. If the JAS certification is obtained, it would allow Paraguay to access a market that consumes nearly 300,000 tons of wood annually.
Rediex Vice Minister Eduardo Gustale noted that this certification could drive greater industrialization and value addition for Paraguayan forestry exports, meeting the high quality standards required by the Japanese market.
