Paraguayan football clubs face potential name changes

A proposal is gaining momentum within Paraguayan football to change the names of sports clubs that are explicitly named after calendar dates. This initiative, reportedly suggested by Conmebol, aims to avoid club names that could carry negative, political, or sensitive connotations for rivals.

Ricardo Núñez, president of the club 12 de Junio, confirmed that discussions are underway regarding this change. Many clubs in the interior leagues, such as 2 de Mayo, 12 de Octubre, 3 de Febrero, and 3 de Noviembre, would be affected by such a move. While no official institutional communication has been issued yet, Núñez indicated that most directors are predisposed to analyze the measure if it advances formally.
