Paraguayan Industrial Union calls for stability under President Alliana
The Paraguayan Industrial Union (UIP) has called on the government of President Pedro Alliana to guarantee national stability and conduct an independent investigation into the events that triggered the recent political and financial crisis.
This demand follows Alliana’s inauguration to complete the presidential term until 2028, following the impeachment and removal of Santiago Peña. Antonio Barrios has assumed the Vice Presidency.
The UIP emphasized that the new administration’s primary responsibility is to rebuild citizen trust through honesty and transparency. The industrial group also requested a thorough review of state controls to identify why existing mechanisms failed and to ensure that investigations are not obstructed by political or economic influence.
The political transition follows a volatile week marked by the financial crisis of Ueno Bank. The Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) has initiated the resolution process for the entity, while the exchange market saw significant volatility, with the dollar price rising 4.9 percent in a single day.
