Paraguayan Interior Minister announces new police leadership selection process
Paraguayan Interior Minister Enrique Riera and National Police Commander César Silguero have launched the Superior Tribunal of Qualifications for Police Services. The tribunal is tasked with selecting the institution's future high-ranking officials, including seven general commissioners and 21 director commissioners, to complete a total of 56 general commissioners.
Riera emphasized that the tribunal will operate with absolute independence, described as being ‘shielded from all external influence,’ to ensure transparency and meritocracy. The selection process will utilize comprehensive personnel files to identify the most qualified candidates.
Additionally, Riera highlighted new training and deployment strategies aimed at combating organized crime. This includes a requirement for new graduates to serve a minimum of two years in areas such as Asunción and Central, as well as an expanded training curriculum of 2,212 hours.
