Paraguayan judicial officials plan protest over wages and health insurance
The Union of Judicial Officials of Paraguay (Sifjupar) has called for a mobilization on October 12 at 14:00. The protest is intended to support the Supreme Court of Justice in its defense before the National Congress.
The union is demanding salary increases, noting that 5,300 judicial officials currently earn less than the minimum wage according to the 2027 fiscal budget project. Sifjupar also claims that salary adjustments for officials in the capital and the interior have been postponed for 16 years.
Additionally, the union is protesting a legislative proposal that could jeopardize private health insurance coverage for public officials. The draft law, which includes several senators, seeks to prohibit the signing of new private medical insurance contracts and eliminate state-funded health subsidies for public employees, with exceptions only for the diplomatic corps serving abroad.
