Paraguayan municipal races: Chamorro backed for Ciudad del Este mayor, Chilavert stays in Luque race

Governor César “Landy” Torres of Alto Paraná said Rigoberto Chamorro is “the best municipal candidate for Ciudad del Este,” highlighting his private‑sector management experience and appeal to young voters. Chamorro has been touring neighborhoods such as Don Bosco, meeting residents house‑to‑house and holding a community lunch.

Former national‑team goalkeeper José Luis Chilavert reaffirmed his candidacy for the Luque mayoralty, filing a formal request with the Electoral Court despite an opposition poll that favored rival Manuel Achucarro. Chilavert called the poll “fraudulent,” rejected the agreement to back the poll winner, and pledged to continue his campaign against the officialist candidate Hugo “Hugui” Farías.
