Sada newborn found dead after mother denied pregnancy

Police in Galicia, Spain, are investigating the death of a newborn discovered in a home in the municipality of Sada. The mother, a 25‑year‑old woman, was admitted to the A Coruña University Hospital with severe internal bleeding. Although she denied being pregnant, medical staff identified an umbilical cord and placental tissue, prompting a cesarean‑type emergency assessment that revealed only placental remnants in her uterus.

Following the hospital’s alert, the Guardia Civil and local police searched the woman’s residence in Sada and found the infant wrapped in blankets inside a wardrobe, already deceased. Investigators are conducting a forensic autopsy to determine whether the baby was born dead or died shortly after birth, a factor that will shape potential criminal charges. The case is being handled by the Judicial Police of Cambre and is now before the Betanzos Court of First Instance.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities collecting evidence from the scene and reviewing the mother’s medical records. No further details about the circumstances of the infant’s death have been released.
