Paraguayan President Santiago Peña meets US Treasury Secretary and Anthropic executive

During a diplomatic visit to Washington, Paraguayan President Santiago Peña met with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to discuss bilateral financial cooperation and the attraction of private American capital. Discussions focused on sectors including advanced technology, logistics, industrial manufacturing, international trade, and mining. The meeting also highlighted ongoing support from the Treasury Department’s Technical Assistance Office and Infrastructure Financing Team to modernize Paraguay’s public finances.

Additionally, President Peña met with Teresa Carlson, Anthropic’s Global Director for the Public Sector, to explore artificial intelligence partnerships. Peña presented the ‘Yguazú Digital’ initiative, a project co-developed with Taiwan aimed at positioning Paraguay as a hub for digital infrastructure and data centers. Leveraging the country’s renewable energy availability, the initiative plans a three-phase expansion: starting with a 10-megawatt data center, moving to a 100-megawatt regional focus, and eventually reaching a 1,000-megawatt capacity.
