Paraguayan Senate President Bachi Núñez Defends Miguel Prieto Amid Corruption Allegations

Senate President Basilio “Bachi” Núñez rejected claims that former Ciudad del Este mayor Miguel Prieto is being politically persecuted, stating the accusations stem from Prieto’s own allies rather than the Colorado sector. Núñez emphasized that “the problem of Prieto is with justice, not with Bachi or Alliana,” and noted Prieto’s admission of irregularities such as nepotism and contacts with prosecutors and judges, though no sanctions have been imposed.

Núñez highlighted that the upcoming municipal elections will serve as a key test of the political landscape, with the ruling party aiming to secure victories in Asunción, Encarnación and Ciudad del Este.
