Brazil police conduct widespread drug and contraband seizures
Law enforcement agencies across Brazil have conducted a series of operations resulting in significant seizures of narcotics, weapons, and contraband.
In major drug enforcement actions, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) seized over one ton of drugs, including marijuana, cocaine, and skunk, hidden in a truck in Porto Velho. In Parintins, Amazonas, police recovered over 500 kg of skunk from a trailer. Other notable seizures include a large quantity of drugs in Brusque and various amounts of cocaine and crack in Rio Branco.
Authorities also targeted contraband and illegal goods. Multiple operations led to the seizure of hundreds of electronic cigarettes (vapes), which are prohibited by Anvisa, in Timon and Poços de Caldas. Additionally, thousands of packs of smuggled cigarettes were recovered following a vehicle rollover during a police pursuit in Paraná, and a Paraguayan vehicle loaded with foreign cigarettes was seized in Santa Tereza do Oeste.
In terms of weapons and violent crime, police in Codó reported a 21.05% increase in firearm seizures, while an elderly man in Piracicaba was arrested for possessing an arsenal of ten firearms. Other incidents included the arrest of a man suspected of attempting to kill a police officer in Natal and the apprehension of a criminal group in João Pessoa specializing in jewelry robberies.
