Argentina labor unions launch widespread protests over wages

Argentina is experiencing widespread labor unrest as various unions demand wage increases and improved working conditions. In a significant development, workers at PAMI (the national social security institute for retirees) suspended a planned national strike and mobilization after reaching an agreement that includes a 14.1% cumulative salary increase through December and an extraordinary bonus of $180,000.

In other regions, tensions remain high. In Entre Ríos, the provincial government filed criminal charges against members of the Asociación de Trabajadores del Estado (ATE) following reports of violent incidents, threats, and property damage at the General Directorate of Human Resources. Meanwhile, ATE is conducting a provincial day of struggle in Entre Ríos to protest the loss of purchasing power and demand salary recomposition.

Additional labor disputes are occurring across the country: teachers in Tierra del Fuego are protesting delayed salary payments; municipal workers in the Buenos Aires province (FESIMUBO) are demanding better wages and the convening of the Municipal Employment Council; and Amsafe teachers in Santa Fe are demonstrating against pension reforms. In Villafañe, a political crisis has emerged following the removal of the mayor, leading to municipal building occupations and disputes over employee rights.
