Paraguay's Basilio Núñez denies Horacio Cartes presidential re-election

Senator Basilio Núñez has dismissed rumors regarding a potential presidential re-election bid by Horacio Cartes, characterizing recent comments made by President Santiago Peña as a ‘lapsus’.

President Peña previously suggested that Cartes might continue serving the Colorado Party in various capacities, including the presidency or the Senate, depending on the party's needs. However, Núñez clarified that Cartes intends to run for the presidency of the Asociación Nacional Republicana (ANR) instead.

According to Núñez, the Honor Colorado movement has already established its roadmap for the 2028 general elections, identifying Pedro Alliana as the movement's candidate for the presidency.
