Paraguay’s Hambre Cero program becomes permanent state policy

Paraguayan Social Development Minister Tadeo Rojas has declared the ‘Hambre Cero en las Escuelas’ (Zero Hunger in Schools) program an irreversible state policy. Speaking during the third anniversary of Santiago Peña’s administration, Rojas stated that the initiative is backed by sufficient legal and institutional frameworks to transcend current government terms.

According to Rojas, the program is designed to be a lasting legacy of the Peña administration, with its most significant impacts on poverty reduction expected to manifest within the next five years or more. He emphasized that as long as the relevant law remains in effect, successive governments will be legally obligated to secure the necessary funding to maintain the project.

The Minister highlighted the program’s socioeconomic impact on family economies and its broad social reach, asserting that the initiative has become a fundamental pillar that the country will protect.
