Paraguay's Ombudsman honors Rogelio Goiburú for human rights work
The Ombudsman's Office in Asunción has presented Dr. Rogelio Goiburú Benítez with a plaque of recognition for his lifelong commitment to human rights and the search for victims of the Stroessner dictatorship.
Goiburú is the son of Dr. Agustín Goiburú Giménez, an opponent of the Alfredo Stroessner regime who was kidnapped and disappeared in 1977. Following his father's disappearance, Rogelio Goiburú dedicated his life to searching for missing persons and preserving the historical memory of Paraguay.
Ombudsman Rafael Ávila Macke stated that the award is more than an administrative procedure, describing it as a heartfelt tribute to a man dedicated to the truth, memory, and the dignity of the victims.
