Parallel Systems and Agility partner for autonomous freight rail in GCC

Parallel Systems and Agility Ventures have entered a strategic agreement to develop and deploy autonomous, battery-electric freight rail technology across the GCC, the EMEA region, and other international markets.

The collaboration aims to integrate autonomous rail systems into existing logistics frameworks to improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Parallel Systems’ technology is designed to operate on existing infrastructure, capable of transporting intermodal containers for up to 500 miles on a single charge. The vehicles can self-sort and assemble into platoons, making them particularly suitable for shorter, lower-density routes that were previously dominated by truck transport.

The companies will begin by identifying priority cargo corridors based on freight volume and economic impact. Potential applications include port shuttles and connections between ports and inland logistics hubs, specifically targeting improved container flows from Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea gateways and other Gulf and Arabian Sea ports. The initiative seeks to reduce port congestion and container dwell times by providing a more reliable, continuous service.
