Paramaribo Academic Hospital staff to receive new salary scale in November

The Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo (AZP) is finalizing a new salary scale for its staff, with payments expected to begin by the end of November. Lloyd Pool, chairman of the ABLAZ union and a member of the finalizing committee, stated that the new structure is nearly complete.

The salary adjustments are intended to cover all hospital employees, ranging from support staff to high-level positions, rather than being limited to nursing staff alone. While previous ministerial indications suggested nursing salaries could range between US$ 700 and US$ 1,000, the exact minimums for all roles have not yet been disclosed.

A primary goal of the new wage structure is to mitigate the migration of healthcare professionals from Suriname. Although Pool acknowledged that the local salaries may not fully compete with international rates, he expressed hope that the improved income will allow more staff to remain in the country.
